The Year 7+ youth group has enjoyed a a very fulfilling Autumn Term, full of activities that have strengthened friendships, deepened faith and connected our young people more closely to the wider church family. We’ve been delighted to welcome several fantastic new members this term, and it has been heart-warming to see the sense of belonging grow as everyone continues to journey together in faith.
Our programme has been rich with fellowship opportunities. Games Nights have been a particular highlight, with the group bonding over lively rounds of card games and a popular “Imposter” game. A Movie Night brought us together to enjoy The Maze Runner, making us think about courage, teamwork and making good choices. One of the most memorable evenings was our Firework Night at the Vicarage—an especially joyful occasion as we were able to share with our families and invite Year 6 children and their families who are preparing for confirmation. It was wonderful to see these connections forming so naturally.

Our morning sessions have been just as valuable, following themes similar to the church’s teaching. This term we were grateful to hear from Chris Elliott, who spoke powerfully about Modern Slavery. We also got hands-on by carving harvest pumpkins for All Souls Day and explored our responsibility for God’s creation through some thoughtful and lively discussions about COP30. Alongside this, the group continued their ongoing commitment to service— raising funds for WaterAid through monthly bake sales and faithfully providing refreshments after the Fourth Sunday Service.

These acts of service help our young people grow in compassion, confidence and responsibility, while also benefitting the whole St John’s community.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting events planned for the rest of term. A social trip to The Light will give us the chance to challenge one another at interactive darts—friendly competition guaranteed! We’re also looking forward to joining with the wider Redhill community as Churches Together gather to sing carols in the Belfry Shopping Centre. And of course, we are delighted to be creating Christingles for the celebration service at St John’s on 14th December once again.
It is fantastic to see such a busy schedule and a thriving youth community with so much on offer. The Year 7+ group continues to be a place where young people can feel safe, grow in friendship, faith, confidence and service—and where the whole church is enriched by their energy and presence.
