Inclusive Church
Inclusive Church is a network of churches, groups and individuals uniting together around a shared vision. We believe in inclusive church – a church that celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate.
St. John’s became a member of the Inclusive Church network in 2023, following our congregation’s engagement with the national Church of England's ‘Living in Love and Faith’ initiative, which explored topics of identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage.
While the decision to join Inclusive Church was mainly prompted by our engagement with Living in Love and Faith, it also reflects our values in opposing discrimination explicitly on a wide range of grounds as well as those related to sexuality, sex and gender - including age, disability, economic power, ethnicity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity and theological opinion.
Our membership of Inclusive Church reflects our desire to welcome and serve all people in the name of Jesus Christ. St John’s is a welcoming, diverse and busy church. We would love for you to come along to any of our services or events and join our congregation.
We have also set up an inclusion team, whose role is to help ensure that St John’s is as inclusive as we can be. We do this by helping to ensure people are made welcome, especially visitors and anyone wanting support, and helping visitors to feel they could belong here if they so choose. We also keep an eye on arrangements at St John’s to help ensure they’re inclusive. Each member of the team focuses especially on one or two areas that match their knowledge – such as disability, for example.
St John’s warmly offers the full range of services to LGBTQ+ couples to the full extent permitted within the current Church of England rules as approved by the House of Bishops.
