As a school community we have always been welcomed into St John’s Church and have appreciated the opportunities we have had to have regular services and events in the church. Every year we celebrate Harvest, Christmas and Easter in church and are able to invite the children’s parents to come and be part of the service. We have a strong singing culture and the children enjoy performing as a school and individual classes. The children are privileged to play an important part in remembering a fallen soldier, Private Cooper, every year at a special grave side service led by Reverend John.

St John’s Church is an important part of our links to the local community. As I prepare for retirement and leaving St John’s Primary School after nearly 10 years, I can reflect on all the changes in education and for the school. Our strong staff team and supportive parent community have meant that we have been able to grow and develop over time, weathering COVID closures, big refurbishment projects and budget constraints. The children at St John’s have benefitted from a stable team, all committed to offering the best experiences for the children in a positive and values led environment. Our values; respect, perseverance, kindness, courage, responsibility and community, underpin our curriculum and behaviour expectations. They are regularly visited in our daily assemblies, often linked to Christian teachings.

With the support of parents and community funding we have improved our learning environment inside and out. We now have a wonderful science and environmental area, which hosts local wild life, including a pair of foxes who are regularly caught on our night vision camera. The children are always delighted to spot the peregrine falcons who nest in the church spire .

I would like to thank Reverend John for his ongoing support for the school, including his regular assemblies. He has also inspired the KS1 children when he came and talked about his role as an everyday superhero!
